- PANTRY
- Description: The above photo was taken by Bob East, Miami Herald photographer. He returned to the picketing site, and said the Herald would not run the picture. And that he wanted us to have it. It dissappeared and would resurface at an awards banquet of the Florida Paraplegic Association, blown up and framed and was again presented to me, as well as a second life time membership. We picketed as a last resort, after Code Enforcement refused to site and ticket the offending Pantry Pride. The posts at other locations later came down. The rest of such iron poss at grocery stores soon followed. The news coverage was all day long thanks to the Pantry Pride Administration sending workmen from Palm Beach with blow torches. This would be our last picketing event as we would then turn to the courts with ADA lawsuits. And Bob East? He would enter Jackson Memorial Hospital for a routine procedure, and be accidently killed with an injection of formaldehyde, a major error in medicine taking out a strong advocate of people with disabilities.
- Officer Down Statue
-
Denny Wood, missing the Fallen Officer Memorial in 2004, 2005 discovered the Memorial in 2006. And got upset as people did not see the Memorial in the Capitol Courtyard. Denny Wood, seeing the problem decided the Memorial needed a draw. In his mind he envisioned the officer wounded and the first responder calling for help. He proceeded to recruit a sculptor, who found the funding from the Police Benevolent Association and the statute was unveiled at a ceremony on March 9, 2009. The keynote speaker was the governor. The PBA Executive Director gave Denny Wood the credit for the concept and design at the unveiling. For Denny Wood, just another problem solved, at the State Legislature and Capitol Building. Please go to www.dignity4disabled.com for more statue pictures and an article about the small minature and another Denny Wood hero. And again, Denny Wood sat in the back row for the ceremony.

- George Bush, leaving the Whitehouse, on his way to sign the Americans with Disabilities Act.

This photo was taken by Denny Wood of President Bush leaving the Whitehouse and heading to the podium for the signing of the American with Disabilities Act in 1990. Denny Wood was in the back row waiting to get a photo of President Bush. Staking out legislators was a learned tactic at the Florida Legislature. They all had a beginning route to where they were going. The Secret Sevice would not let me get closer with the camera.
This president, for his commitment to pass the ADA, remains one of Denny's heros. One is ex-president Bush, who made the Americans with Disabilities Act happen. Mr. Brady, who took a bullet and was disabled, is another such hero. Without his injury President Bush may have never made the ADA happen. When President Bush called House and Senate members to the Whitehouse, he stated we need to pass the Americans with Disabilities Bill and we need to work out the comprimises. President Bush was simply fulfilling the commitment he and President Reagan made to Mr. Brady for taking the bullet that fateful day President Reagan was also shot.
His photo, above, would be on the front page of the first issue of Dignity Newspaper, published by me. The ADA Bush speech was also published and , many photos of the "after" the signing event, where Florida advocates had a "meet up" with activists from all over the nation. This site was a park, and we went by wheelchair over "temporary ramps" installed for the after the bill signing occasion.
Jeb Bush, would years later, get his father to autograph the front page ADA story with this photo on the front page.
Each time he does a sky dive, I again, admire him. He is truly an American hero. Hopefully, when he is 100, he will celebrate with another sky dive.
- Denny and Maurice Ferre, Maurice was a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Maurice Ferre, and Denny Wood exchange campaign comments for the www.Ferre2010.com U.S. Senate race. Ferre has recently advanced from 4% to 10% in the Florida polls and is expected to advance upwards each week. The primary is August 24. Denny Wood endorsed Maurice Ferre very early, after Ferre announced his race for the U.S. Senate. The photos are by Elizabeth Tetreault, a new addition to the Ferre Campaign. The photos were taken May 28 at a Miami Ferre supporters gathering.

as an Independent candidate, (NPA), I was one of 44 NPA candidates running across the State of Florida. Our gamble was the political climate was ripe for the NPA's. Many NPA's like myself, had very little money in contrubutions. All 44 NPA's lost. We took the gamble and in the worst economy of my life, we all lost. I began asking permission to put up my 24 x 18 inch signs. This man had two properties on SW 56 Street and not only said yes, but insisted on using his plastic ties and erecting both signs. These two signs are the first ones up, made in my store in my spare time, in this rotten economy that has created too much spare time at my business at www.signs-tshirts-trophies.com
We met at Shake-A-Leg for one of the First meetings of the Democrats with Disabilities United. Attending to the far left is District 108 Candidate Daphnee Cambell. Ronald Fulton is seated in the wheelchair with his attendant by his side. The two men on each side of the man in the middle are blind. Johnny Faris, in the dark shirt is running for District 112. And the guy in the Tux T-shirt, is me, Denny Wood, running in District 114. When I get the exact names I will add them to the caption. This is just one of the meetings candidates will be invited to attend on the campaign trail. I am endorsing both Daphnee and Johnny in their attempts to win their disticts. Both of them promise CHANGE and new faces always mean change at the Florida Legislature. At this meeting I was not yet an announced candidate. I was just out early meeting the new candidates and giving Ronald Fulton support with this new organization attempt.
- autism
-
Autism stikes 1 in every 100 children. What causes autism is still a mystery. Research is now the name of the game. Each year a fundraiser at Crandon Park, Key Biscayne is held, where there is a "walk for autism". Families and their supporters come in neat T-shirts and signs for the "Autism Walk". The walk is spoiled for people in wheelchairs by the County Park Staff who refuse to be on hand to direct the tables, tents and exhibits to be along a solid path or on a solid surface. We made a big issue about this in 2009, which led to some small changes, but the 2010 walk was a repeat bummer for the people in wheelchairs, because county parks people refuse to be on hand directing each and every installation to be on or near pavement. Instead, big exhibits are out in the grass. This time I have asked for the firing of all involved. Fat chance in our morally bankrupt County Government.
