Florida Governor's Race
This the web page to watch!

People with disabilities will determine who is the next Governor. Whether they know it or not, their vote will determine the next Governor with some unity, and good information, which we hope to provide on this web site. People with disabilities will make the difference. They represent about 18 percent of Florida’s voting citizens.

This document will change and be altered weekly, depending on verified information supplied by the readers.

Governor Bush will probably not be a viable contender if he was untruthful with Floridians about his “alleged affair” with a member of his cabinet. It will not be the affair; it will be a matter of truthfulness with the people of Florida.

The Issues for all candidates that served in office:

Did any of the candidates ensure extraordinary measures took place to employ people with disabilities in their respective positions?

What extraordinary measures did they take that improved any of the hardships people with disabilities are confronted with in Florida?

The J. Bush Administration:

EMPLOYMENT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN STATE GOVERNMENT

Was the J. Bush administration’s first act of affirmative action for people with disabilities the termination of the Vocational Rehabilitation Director, who was also post polio and used a wheelchair all her adult life?

How many cases can each candidate allude to where people with disabilities where not only hired but advanced to supervisory or administration positions?

VOCATIONAL REHABILITIATION FOR  PEOPLE WITH DISABITIES

Is the Vocational Rehabilitation program as good or better than before Governor Bush became director?

TAXATION

Governor Bush was advised during the 2001 Session that businesses were taxing disabled people for wheelchair and van repairs. He was asked to amend any bill to halt this unfair activity. What did the Governor do on this simple issue?

BUILDING ACCESS IN FLORIDA

How did Governor Bush handle the Department of Community Affairs telling all building Departments to ignore the access law, regarding churches and direct Building Departments not to require Chapter 553, Part V accessibility standards to be enforced? (Churches were part of the law since 1974, and still are!)

During the 2001 Session the governor was sent some suggestions on how to make disabled parking better.  This was to make the maximum disabled parking space width, again, 13 feet wide,

And add language that access aisles be placed on the passenger side of parking spaces, when only single spaces were used. How did Governor Bush handle this simple little request?

Are all the restrooms along I-95 fully usable and accessible to travelers in wheelchairs?

DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN & FAMILIES

Why are there still suits pending after two years against the State by people with severe disabilities?

Why are the financial thresholds to get prescriptions, doctor visits and needed tests so high under MEDICAID?

TRANSPORTATION FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

In the 2001 session was a bill to increase a fee to get more money for disadvantaged transportation. Where did the Governor stand on this issue and what was the result of the bill?

The Reno State Attorney and Department of Justice

How many letters to DOJ on Americans With Disabilities complaints were handled positively?

Did any complaints result in actual DOJ lawsuits?

Why did the BUSWAY letter sent to Janet Reno go unanswered? (It is posted on this Dignity web site)

Readers: This is your best place to comment with meaning, on what the next Governor of Florida needs to know about disability issues in Florida.
