ANOTHER TAX SUPPORTED
" BAD "
CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

  By Denny Wood

MIAMI-DADE--We have had laws on building construction for people with disabilities since 1974. The Miami-Dade Housing Authority signs are up on this Captival Apartments construction project in Perrine, on SW 107 Ave.

They have placed a decorative column on the wheelchair access sidewalk.  Imagine carrying packages of groceries through this opening  not quite 36 inches. Skinned hands is the plan. Beyond the gate is a sidewalk that does not have shortcuts across the grass. Wheelchair users with heavy packages will take a longer route. The Leasing Office has door handles that are illegal. And the two disabled parking spaces that have been constructed are installed with the access aisle on the wrong side of the space so that Vans willl unload with difficulty. And this is just the "tip of the iceberg".

Who is watching new construction plans for people with disabitities in Miami-Dade County Government? Certainly no one on the side of people with disabilities.
