THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED ARE ELGIBLE FOR UP TO $500 TOWARDS THEFT OR DAMAGES COMMITED IN THE ACT OF A CRIME. There is a “catch”. You must be persistent and aggressive. For the past 10 years this toll free phone number HAS NOT BEEN PUBLISHED in the Guide to Florida Government in the section of Office of the Attorney General or in the toll free numbers of the same document. Denny Wood has asked the Clerk of the Florida House to add this Toll  Free Number in the correct places of this guide to Florida Government.

You may be denied the money you are entitled to. Don’t quit. In the last ten years conservative republicans are in control of the Office of the Attorney General. When you run into denials, contact your state legislator for help.

Some police departments issue pamphlets to crime victims, but few spell out the up to $500. When my van was stolen and stripped the Miami-Dade police department did not give me a pamphlet. They do not give out pamphtets to crime victims. Recently they produced an old pamphlet, but the police know nothing about the up to $500 compensation for people with disabilities and the elderly.

Years ago, after my van was stolen and stripped,  thoughtful policewoman in Homestead gave me the information verbally on the telephone.

Until all police departments, issue crime victim information to the disabled and elderly about the $500, I will consider their Police administrators as bad as the criminal who ripped off the elderly and disabled.

We recently learned that another important part of the law exists:

                   "SPECIAL NOTICE OF INSURANCE WAIVER PROVISION

Please except this notice as official confirmation that the victim/insured named below has been determined eligible for victim compensation benefits under Chapter 960, Florida Statutes.

"Per Florida Statut Section 624.128, a person who is determined eligible for victim compensation benefits is exempted from having to pay an co-payment or deductible under any insurance policy for crime-related expenses. Exclusions include out of state insurance carriers who are not licensed to do business in the State of Florida, health maintenance organizations (HMO), and self-insurance plans.

Under these provisions, the insurance carrier is responsible for payment of the deductible and co-payments. The treatment provider or victim/insured is entitled to full reimbursement from the insurance carrier.
